Well, I had a meeting with the nutritionist today. It was a long meeting. At the end of the meeting I handed her my credit card and she took $800 of my imaginary money.

I'll be meeting with her every other week for the next three months.

We had a long talk. It was like what I imagine confession to be.

It also involved her pulling out the calipers and doing a body fat check...and talking about what I eat...or more to the point what I'm not eating...and how often I'm not eating it and how that negatively impacts my metabolism...and my cholesterol...and the danger of what my body might be doing in my 40s if it is doing what is doing right now already in my 30s...and family history of high blood pressure...and the effects of stress on the body. And lots of other things. Like how I need to drink a gallon of water a day.

After that it was off to watch Mildred Pierce and All About Eve...movies full of people who are just mean to other people.

Long and hard day.

Eight.....hundred dollars? Why? And is none of this covered by insurance? Were those calipers full of diamonds?

I'm sorry about your day, kiddo.

No...no diamonds...not covered by insurance. (She is attached to my gym) But she did take credit cards...so...that's exciting.

It seems that this is the summer of self-improvement for me. And all of that seems to cost money. I can't wait to schedule my dental appointments.

Did she at least give you a meal plan? Like this is what is good to eat at this period of time and this is what you should snack on? Did she buy your groceries or something cause i'm just having a hard time swallowing (and it's not like i'm not a pro at it) 800 dollars.

Well, she gave me three small things to do before I see her again on Monday:

Drink a gallon of water a day.
Keep a diary of the food I eat.
Eat 3 meals a day.

And she gave me something to think about: I'm not eating enough protein at all, try cottage cheese.

But meal plans and all of that? That, I think, will start on Monday. She says she's going to work with me over the next three months to help me get where I need to be in terms of my health in a way that will also work with my lifestyle, and give me the skills to be healthy even after we have stopped seeing each other. All that sort of stuff. I think she's trying not to overwhelm me.

I keep a food log at a free site called fitday.com. It really helps me in terms of calorie management since that seems to be where my problem is - I consume too many without even realizing it. It also tells you if you're meeting nutrition requirements and whatnot. Anyway, maybe that would help.

Wow. That sounds like a total ad.

Good luck getting healthy. I'm glad you're trying because it seems like so many people don't even care. I certainly didn't back at Mills. Now I'm an insufferable health nut who lectures her friends about eating vegetables and working out. :P

Okay that's good. I just thought I saw poor trooper6 getting butt pounded by someone he didn't want to butt pounded by.

So it sounds like she'll be good for you.

I know your life is extremely busy and that certainly gets in the way of a healthy regimen. So if you think about it, you're investing $800 to allow yourself to live healthier, longer and much more studdlier (if that is possible)!

It won't be long before you walk into a gym and roll your eyes at the gym rats and scoff, "Pfft....mortals"

That's how I'm trying to think about it!

There is a nutritionist at UCLA, part of the Ashe center. When I met with her 5 years ago, maybe 6, she was included (100% free) as part of our health coverage. I am positive it is not the same person anymore, but have you looked into this? Maybe they don't have one anymore at all, but the woman I talked to went through a lot of the same material you just mentioned. And, over the summer, you can actually get in to meet Ashe center people pretty regularly.

I met with the nutritionist a while ago when I was diagnosed with the high cholesterol. She wasn't super useful...very generic. The nutritionist I visited the other day was a lot more thorough and seems like she'll do more in depth and personalized work with me. So...we'll see how it goes!
