So, I'm handsome again. After too long looking like an extra from the cast of Hair, I went to my barber and got a haircut. It was $20 bucks! But definitely worth it. This is the second time I've gone to this barber...and the second time I've gotten a great cut from him.

I think this fellow will be my regular barber until I leave LA. I'm very happy. Plus, I've been listening to Olivia Newton-John lots again. Hm...I need to have more music in my life.

I have frighteningly few days left to write my Billy Tipton article. (Let's think about that later).

Lastly, yesterday I took the day off. Monday I finished all of the grading, and got it all turned in. So Tuesday I slept in and hung out in my PJs all day. Tuesday night I started playing Advent Rising...well...it is this video game that has gotten mixed reviews...people complain about the framerate slowing down mostly -- though some have complained about the targeting system. Me? I'm having a great time. It is such a movie experience. It was co-written by Orson Scott Card and I think it's pretty cool so far. I've only played it for a few hours...and probably won't be able to play for a while (unless I get super productive on this Tipton paper). But right away...the game gave me this horrible desicion...in the opening sections of the game. I hade to choose between my brother or my fiancé. I chose my fiancé...but I'm still haunted by my choice...I can't go into too many details because of Stephan's Rule of Video Game Spoiler Avoidance.

Okay, I'm off to do some laundry and read.

Did I mention...I have a haircut.

Yeah!

never played the game but:

always choose the fiance over the brother cause the fiance will give you sex and the brother will not...

...unless you're in the bayou.

You did not look like an extra from Hair!

I ran into my friend BJ last night. You two could be brothers; similar skin tone, same style of facial hair, short haircuts, both gamer geeks obsessed with music (though BJ is not a musician, but he's a hell of a dancer), both trans. I'll see if I can arrange an introduction next time you're in town.

What sort of dancer? I've been known to cut a rug (Country 2-Step and Waltz, Victorian Ballroom, and Swing Dancing).

Anyhoo...I'd love to meet him.

Also...did you not see me?! I practically had a fourteen inch Afro....practically...if you looked really hard...and used a bit of imagination. :)

Back in the 70s I used to have a huge afro...that Afro lasted through most of the 80s. But when I joined the Army in 1990, my Afro was left on the barber's floor, and I haven't really had long hair since. After being in the Army, I can barely stand to have hair touching my ears anymore.

He dances to Goth/Industrial. He did a Trent Reznor act in a local drag king contest once.

Where did you learn Victorian ballroom dancing? I'm interested in that.

Up in the Bay Area we have the Gaskill's Ball every two months. Story has it that it was founded by folks from Dickens' Faire who couldn't get enough of the dancing. The ball always has a live brass band, and the dancing is great: Viennese waltz, polka, schottische, mazurka, galop...lots of line dances. I haven't done it in years and years...I certainly do miss it. Looking around it seems as if SoCall is all abour Regency Dancing...but I perfer the scandalous sexuality of a good Viennese waltz.

chorale and I tried period dancing once, at a very small San Diego con; we danced one line dance and one waltz—each of us with a different partner for the waltz. I'll never be a good dancer, but after that I understood why the waltz was so scandalous!

A friend of mine manages the Web site for a San Diego waltz group. Here's the URL:

I got a haircut today, too, and it cost me (brace yourself) $105 (!!!!). I was like, excuse me?! It was a great cut, and I got a few highlights, but I have approximately 13 bucks in my account, so that was interesting.....

I'm sorry. I must have misread you. Did you type $105...because I'm sure you meant $15.

...

$105!!! What sort of crazyness is that!

Do you like your haircut? For $105 you should be looking all sorts of Hollywood and famous. But they should have done your taxes too.

yeah. $105. While I was getting my hair done, they should have done my grocery shopping for the MONTH b/c that is what that sum is equivalent to...ahhh!

My haircuts went up past $20 a few years ago. On the other hand, I get haircuts that suit me, to my specifications: I want to look like someone properly groomed who doesn't try to be stylish. (You need more memory for visual imagery than I'm capable of to be stylish.)

I don't think you'd be mistaken for one of the cast members of Hair. It wasn't that long! When you have a family of squirrels nesting in your afro, then let me know.

You looked great that night I saw you. I especially liked the sideburns and your facial hair. Nice and neat.

One of these days, I'd like to watch you groom yourself in the morning.
