Raybear, Game and Procrastination
Dec. 14th, 2003 10:16 pmI just met
raybear in person for the first time. It was really nice. He's a really cool guy. It was very relaxed. This was the first time I've met an LJ person I don't know in real life. It's funny. Because I know about his life...but I'd never met him. But it was really easy and relaxed. We ate at Cafe 50s, walked around Venice, saw the beach, chatted about everything (music and politics, of course) and then split up. Good times. I'm looking forward to seeing him again before he leaves.
Second topic. Game. We didn't game today because CA couldn't make it. I found out yesterday. So I had to cancel with all the other players. Now it's all up in the air if we are going to be able to play again before CA leaves for NorCal. The game is all jacked. People are regularly 2hrs late, we keep having to cancel, etc. I just found out that justanothrlabel wants to join the game. Of course, winter break, the best time for me to get lots of gaming in, most folks are going to be gone.
So I've been thinking. CA is leaving, and we will probably not be able to get any good closure with this campaign, and it'll all be messed up. We're getting a new player. I only chose the Swashbucklers theme because CA wanted something light and not heavy. But she's out of here. So this is what I'm thinking. Maybe I'll take this time to put together the campaign I've been wanting to run for about 15 years. I've always wanted to run a game where the players are members of the French Resistance or the SOE paradropped into France. I think that I'm going to run it. It'll be a fresh start after all this badness. I'll find out when is the best time for all the players, and who wants to play, and then we'll go.
That particular type of theme will allow some flexibility of player. If a player can't make it for the game, it is entirely possible that thier character can't get away from their cover job to do resistance stuff. I'm thinking also about doing some one-on-one sessions...where the players do the routine stuff that resistance members had to do--recruit new members, pick up messages, steal plans, etc. Really short one on one things...Also the players would have two characters...and if Joey shows up with character B rather than character A, you never know if that's because character A is dead, captured by the Nazi's or who knows what! Oh the drama, the excitment, the suspense! I think it has the potential of being the best campaign I've ever run. I'm going to have to finish these darn finals, enter in the grades, and then start prepping for this campaign. Perhaps we'll be able to even play a bit before the quarter starts. I'm having lots of ideas...and it would be neat to get a good start on all of this excitment. Now that CA's not gaming anymore, it would be interesting to see whether Friday nights would be better for people than Sunday afternoons. Or what.
Hm...my brain is rumbling, rumbling, rumbling...I've got to talk to my players about this...I wonder if Lauren would want to play...
